How to Edit Pages in WordPress (Page Builder)

Finding and Opening a Page

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard at yourwebsite.com/wp-admin
  2. In the left-hand menu, click Pages, then All Pages
  3. Find the page you want to edit and click Edit underneath its title

The Page Editor

  1. You’ll see the page title at the top — edit this if needed, though be careful as changing it may affect your page’s URL
  2. Below the title, look for a blue Backend Editor button. If you can see it, click it. If you can’t see it, the page builder is already open and ready to use — just carry on to the next step
  3. The page will load as a visual grid of rows and columns containing content elements

Editing Text

  1. Hover your mouse over the text block you want to edit — a small toolbar will appear on it
  2. Click the pencil icon to open the editor
  3. A popup will open — edit your text using the toolbar for formatting (bold, italic, headings, links, etc.)
  4. When done, click Save changes in the popup to close it

Editing Images

  1. Hover your mouse over the image you want to change — a small toolbar will appear on it
  2. Click the pencil icon to open the settings
  3. In the popup, click Add Image
  4. Either select a new image from your library or upload one from your computer, then click Use selected image (or similar)
  5. Update any alt text while you’re there — this is a short description of the image, which is good for SEO and accessibility
  6. Click Save changes to close the popup

Saving Your Changes

  1. Once you’ve finished editing, click the Update button in the top right of the page
  2. Your changes will go live on the website straight away

Tips

  • Frontend editor — if you prefer to edit on the live page rather than in the dashboard, visit the page while logged in and click Edit with Visual Composer in the top admin bar. It works the same way but lets you see your changes in context as you go
  • Don’t click rows or columns by mistake — each element has its own pencil icon; clicking the wrong level will open row or column settings rather than the content itself
  • Undo is limited — WPBakery doesn’t have a reliable undo, so if you’re making bigger changes it’s worth noting down the original text first
  • Before saving, you can click the arrow next to the Update button and choose Preview Changes to check how things look first
